photoblog image Greek Sojourn - Santorini

Greek Sojourn - Santorini

Another shot from the archives. The idyllic surroundings of Santorini are fairly dominated by white washed, blue domed churches and residential houses, also painted various pastel shades. There are very few motorable paths and of course there are the camera toting tourists :)

I am told that the Church plays a significant role in the lives of the Greek. Furthermore, it is quite common for overseas visitors to use these beautiful churches as wedding locations.

The timelapse below is from back home, Singapore.

Santorini is my favorite place in the world Ayush... once you go there you are spoiled forever... great composition....peterwink
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Peter, I liked the way you put "spoiled forever"!
Gorgeous photo of this icon setting, Ayush!
I enjoyed watching the clouds go by in your timelapse!
Ayush Basu: I missed something, so I had to go back home to get it, thereby getting started on the timelapse later than I had planned. Thank you, Elizabeth on both accounts.

It is a magical place, Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Yes, I liked the brief time spent here, Ray.
I've only been to Corfu while on a cruise, Ayush, but would love to see more of the islands one day. This alone would be reason enough!
Ayush Basu: Something for 2018 then, Ginnie? I spent only limited time here and would certainly not mind going back there.

The whole town looks very ancient indeed, Ayush
Ayush Basu: But going by the paint job, it looks almost spotless no matter how ancient, Lisl. I suspect that the fresh paint is partly for the benefit of the tourists.

This is such a wonderful point of view. It must have been a joy to walk around this place. I can imagine why people like to get married here. Great timelapse again.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Astrid, on both counts. Yes, it was rather warm on the island and the multitude of steps were rather steep at some locations, but it was still all worth it.

All the buildings crowded onto the hill, it's charming Peter
Ayush Basu: Yes, not too shabby despite the close proximity, Chris.

It could only be Greece Ayush, so iconic. I think that is a Greek word too. The sunrise was short.
Ayush Basu: You are absolutely right, Chad. The three blue domes and crosses have featured so much in print and online.
WRT timelapse, I realised I had missed something, so I had to go back home to get it, thereby getting started on the timelapse later than I had planned.
Magnifique ! J'aime la forme des toits et ce joli bleu.
Ayush Basu: Merci, Martine. This similar view of the blue domes and the crosses has often featured in various travel magazines and websites.
Magnifique !!
Cela donne envie de partir en vacances ..merci
Ayush Basu: Merci, Claudine. It is always a good idea to take a break to get mentally recharged.

A photographer's dream. I would like to spend a short while on the terrace but would need the parasol up.
Ayush Basu: It was rather warm that time of the year, Alan, even for South Asians. smile I would have liked to spend more time there than I did!
It is an idyllic sort of place Ayush.

I love the changing sky in the time lapse
Ayush Basu: It is not evident in this picture, but the place was almost dominated by tourists. The only locals I saw were tour operators or souvenir sellers, Bill. Thank you on your feedback for the time lapse.
oh WOW, that is incredibly beautiful... it's a good sign that such beauty can come from our hands... a pastel church town!!
Ayush Basu: I know exactly what you mean, Elaine. Normally while shooting afternoon or early morning scenes, I tend to focus more on the nature elements and leave out man made constructs, but on this occasion, I was more than happy to leave this "pastel church town" in!

Love those fast trains in the timelapse. I can imagine that the Santorinis all have big calf muscles smile
Ayush Basu: Or they need to visit orthopaedics a lot, Louis wink
Those metro commuter trains are rated to go at 90kmph, but normally they run at not exceeding 80 - I think it has to do with the frequency of stations in between and how the propulsion can accelerate/decelerate.
I miss Greece! I have only been to Aegean Island.
Ayush Basu: I have not been to most of Greece and the ones I did, I would have wanted to spend more time, LC!
What a place! Nicely captured, Ayush. I like your time-lapse, I'd like to try that.
Ayush Basu: I shoot every now and then and I like the results, Frank. My camera has a built in interval-o-meter which helps a lot. But I am told external modules are also available.
My son married in Greece, the first wedding at the beach, so the mayor came out and made a speech.

The same son is going to Singapore soon.
Ayush Basu: I would think your son and his bride had a memorable wedding, Mary.
That is very good, Mary - I hope your son has a wonderful time in Singapore, whether for work commitments or pleasure. Despite being an urban center, the city has a lot to offer and is also a gateway to other fascinating places in the region.

A lovely picture Ayush.
Ayush Basu: Thank you, Anne!
I love that bright Mediterranean sun...
Ayush Basu: Yes, the afternoon sun in August, among all those light hued walls, Larry.
A fine shot, Ayush!
Ayush Basu: Thank you very much, Tom.

Fabulous photograph smile
Ayush Basu: Thank you for the kind remark, CP. This was indeed a very nice spot to visit!
That is a beautiful shot.
Ayush Basu: An uplifting place to visit, for sure, Michael. Thank you.
